One of the best things about London is how walkable the city is: a car is not needed in Central London. While the “Tube” and buses are convenient for covering longer distances, many of the capital’s attractions are within walking distance of each other. The Central Park London is a short walk from five Underground stations and close to green spaces and pedestrian zones.
These pedestrian-approved and family-friendly spots are perfect for leisurely strolls, picnics, and family outings this summer in London.
- Hyde Park
Hyde Park is the quintessential destination for families and pedestrians in London. Bridging the gap between Paddington, Soho, Mayfair, and Notting Hill, this huge green space is especially convenient for those staying at hotels near Westminster Borough. The park has multi-purpose trails, a swimming lido, and boating lake. It’s a fine location for picnicking and soaking up the summer sunshine.
- Thames Path
The Thames Path refers to two pedestrian pavements on the north and south banks of the river. The South Bank is a hub of activity, particularly the stretch between the London Eye and Tower Bridge. Tourists and locals alike enjoy following the path and stopping off for a bite to eat or to tour a riverside attraction.
The North Bank is beautiful east of the Tower of London with a trail taking you past St Katharine’s Docks and the Wapping docklands. There are various parks and benches and St Dunstan in the East Church Garden is worth the detour.
- Holland Park
Holland Park is a rarely-visited park where we encourage guests of Central Park London to venture for a picnic. The park has Japanese and Dutch gardens and several playgrounds to suit children of varying ages. A life size chess board is suitable for everyone to enjoy.
A visit to Holland Park may be merged with a trip to the Design Museum and a stroll along the classy Kensington High Street before re-entering Hyde Park.
- Little Venice
This picturesque and romantic neighbourhood is likened to Venice for its canals and dreamy architecture. The prettiest streets and canalside parks are a short walk from the foodie hub of Paddington Basin. Due to the trees, this area is especially nice on a hot day and during autumn – followed by an al fresco cup of coffee or glass of wine.
- Hackney Marshes
The Hackney Marshes is an adventurous day out from Central Park London. There are short through to longer walking trails meandering past the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the wetlands, and the River Lea. It’s certainly a place to take a picnic and commit to at least a couple of hours.
- Battersea Park and Chelsea Embankment
In order to escape the crowds, head south of the river to Battersea Park. This beautiful park contains a pagoda, boating lake, and canopy rope course for all ages. Besides exploring the gardens, you can take a look around the Battersea Power Station leisure development and cross the river to wander the Chelsea Embankment. The Chelsea Physic Garden is a hidden gem close to our boutique hotels near Westminster Borough.
