The Tower of London which is used variously throughout its history as a royal palace, an armoury, a prison, an execution chamber, a zoo, a barracks and a jewel house, this working royal castle offers a stunning insight into 1,000 years of history.
But, nothing more amazing than the magnificent Crown Jewels on display here, made up of nearly 24,000 gems. There are tales of great sacrifice and years of history behind this magnificent Crown which survived the ruins. Preserved as one of the powerful symbols of monarchy, the Crown Jewels are a unique, priceless collection of crowns and other sacred and ceremonial objects, known as Coronation Regalia, displayed at the Tower of London.
You’ll find the Crown Jewels well under armed guard in the Jewel House. These gems are a unique working collection of royal regalia and are still regularly used by The Queen for important national ceremonies, such as the State Opening of Parliament. Make sure to look out for the ‘in use’ signs.
