Amazing Child-friendly Musuems in London to Visit this Summer

The Central Park Hotels Collection is a family-friendly choice of accommodation in London. Children have plenty of activities to look forward to during their holiday in the capital. Most of the museums in London are free, and they are ideal on a rainy day – as well as when a heatwave strikes. These are the most child-friendly museums in London.

  1. Discover Children’s Story Centre

Located in Stratford, East London, the Discover Children’s Story Centre is one of the best museums for babies, toddlers, and primary school-age children. This museum is designed as an interactive story trail and aims to engage children with storytelling, reading, and writing through interactive play and creativity. It’s divided into two parts: Story Worlds and Story Garden and hosts exhibitions centred on bestselling children’s books.

Special events: Ever-changing activities and storytelling sessions, especially at weekends and during school holidays.

  1. Science Museum

One of the top museums near the best central hotels in London, the Science Museum is an immersive wonderland where children of all ages are encouraged to learn about science, technology, and innovation. A hefty supply of hands-on exhibits makes this a fully interactive experience. Topics vary from space exploration to robotics and video gaming. General admission is free although special exhibitions and IMAX cinematic experiences carry a fee.

Current special exhibit: Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination

Forthcoming special exhibit: Turn It Up: The Power of Music

  1. Natural History Museum

Around the corner from the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum is another of the best kid-friendly attractions in London. This is where you’ll find the iconic dinosaur gallery with its animatronic t-rex. In addition, the museum is a vast investigation of natural wonders across animals, fossils, minerals, creepy crawlies, and the earth’s crust. This museum is also free to visit unless you want to splash out on a temporary exhibition. As an alternative, you can trade your bed at the Central Park Hotels for a sleepover in the museum.

Current special exhibit: Titanosaur: Life as the Biggest Dinosaur

Notable event: Dino Snores for Kids

  1. Cutty Sark

Located in the riverside settlement of Greenwich, the Cutty Sark is the fastest sailing ship of all time. Restored and permanently docked at the riverfront, this tea clipper is open for family exploration. Your ticket permits access to the mast area and below deck with countless photo opportunities and hands-on activities. In addition to finding out what it was like to live at sea, the Cutty Sark offers lovely views of the Thames.

Notable experience: Cutty Sark Rig Climb Experience (suitable for children age 10+)

  1. London Transport Museum

Dedicated to the history of London’s public transport system, the London Transport Museum takes you behind the scenes and shows you how the “tube” functions. It’s equally interesting for children and adults, with objects including vintage signage and historic carriages. Guests of central hotels in London can visit the museum and then grab dinner in Covent Garden.

Current special exhibit: Summer at the Museum: Build Better

Notable event: London Underground and depot guided tours
